Internal Broken Links
« on: April 30, 2019, 11:42:24 AM »
Running an semrush audit on my links shows that /advsearch.php?search_new=1 is generating 61 403 errors simply because search engines are treating the login page as deficient in content and password protected.  Excluding this from sitemaps is an option but has anyone else tried adding content to the search page or other solutions?

Thanks,
Jason

I excluded login.php and advsearch.php from the robot.txt file but still get the same internal broken link errors.

What do you use?  Moz or just Google webmaster?  Other than using a script to generate the sitemap.xml my configuration is not unique.  I'm surprised no one else is discussing it.

Yeah, Google webmaster doesn't show any of these to me either.  I'm ranking #2 so I think I have to find a fix for mine to move up. :-)

Hi fiatlux,

So it doesn't have broken links then when crawled by google, that's the main one that matters.

Well yes, Google is the big daddy but I can't say that it doesn't matter as Bing/Yahoo are showing actually 20 more errors (attached report) than the audit did.  Just because Google isn't telling us about them doesn't mean they are not seeing them also.

Hi fiatlux,

Your getting some or all of those errors because it's login forbidden in the script by the sessioninc.php by the looks of it.

I do see the 403 error if the UserId is blank but I don't know the code well enough to recognize a fix.  My guess is that simply excluding sessioninc.php won't resolve it.  Any ideas for simple changes?

Thanks,
Jason

Would it create a fatal security issue if I changed the 403 to a 100 Continue informational response?

Hi fiatlux,

I am not sure but sessioninc.php is used to keep it safe.
