What do you use to create templates
« on: June 17, 2015, 08:23:25 AM »
Hello all,

First, my thanks go to those who make it possible to create osDate, good work.
I'm new with osDate, and therefore new here on the forum.
Now I'd like to create your own template, now my question is, what software package you use for that.
Is there anywhere to find a guide on the steps to take

Greetings from Rotterdam

Hi Anton,
i am very new to osdate too.

Using it since 2 months and fighting every day ... still got no version to make public.

i used a standard 3 columns template and changed colours and background and graphcis.

i think it is a hard job if you try to build a complet new temlate because osdate is not documented perfectly.

Their is no real guide in how to make an osdate template. I mainly do custom responsive joomla and wordpress templates for clients and the main thing is I have to pick which frame work I am going to build a template on. Osdate templates have a bad design layout from the start but then they are a decade old and only their to give you a starting point.

For osdate templates it is best to go through every tpl file in the default template and find every style code and make a css class for it. When you are done you will now have full control using css only which gives you a good start.

Hi AntonSteen,

Most people use Dreamweaver or something similar and sorry but there has never been a guide in how to make the templates as scvoyager said even at the original forum which is closed now.

There is no restrictions on the Default template, do what ever you want.
The Default template is not mobile or tablet friendly so keep that in mind for future updates and changes.

On the other hand, you can find some responsive templates here  that are mobile friendly https://www.osdateforum.com/responsive-template/ and work with osDate 2.65

To get started on making a new template in your template folder create a new folder and name it what you want your template name to be. Copy the index.tpl and index_header.tpl file from the default template into your new template folder. Now go into your admin panel and change the setting to your new template.

Their you go you just started your new template. Now any file you want to modify copy that file from your default to your new template and modify it in your new template.

Always leave the default template alone for it gives you a good backup to your tpl files if you make a mistake to a file in your new template.

You can download a Free copy of a very new osDate theme here https://www.osdateforum.com/templates-and-themes-8/free-template-juno-by-khdevelopment/msg3905/#msg3905 the download link is on the page

This will also give you a idea on what you can do.
