osDate Forum NOT Closing Down
« on: December 18, 2014, 05:03:31 PM »
Hi,

Since the begin of December 2014, I have been thinking about closing down osDate Forum.
Reason being, it is costing me money to run and I am getting no reward for doing so.

So have decided, I will be closing the Site down on the 3rd January 2015.

Hello CBG,

This is really sad news.

Surely it's doesn't cost to much to run a year, is there a way we can help keep this online?
Maybe you should put a PayPal donation button on here or some google ads to help generate some money??

Hi,

The site is currently on my reseller account, which is £17.94 GBP per month, for 10 accounts and the domain cost $10.87 USD (includes +$0.18 for icann) per year at Namecheap.com
It not really the money side, as I need to pay for the reseller account, to keep my other sites online.

I have mainly lost interest in osDate and haven't touched it for awhile and can't see me doing so.

I will reply to your PM.

Hi CBG

The last resource and bastion of osDate is closing down? sad news!! but i can understand the time it take and the frustration of running this forum.
I see it with my own site.. a lot! of work and the only thing you get back is a lot! of complains and trubble.
The balance between joy and work is gone so i can understand your decision.. but I hope nevertheless that you can find someone who can keep this forum running as good as you did!!

Regards
Vink

If you still want to close down, if you back up your DB and email it to me I will keep it open on my server if that helps?

That way we don't loose any posts and user accounts etc it is up to you, or I can just install a new forum on my server.
I have my own web server, I host a few websites and it cost's me nothing but the domain name every 3 years.. :D

If this helps keep the community up and running I am willing to do this... :D

Hi epsilonion,

You don't need to worry now, the Forum is staying up as I am keeping it open :)
There will be some downtime soon when the Domain DNS settings get Changed for the new host.

G'day Gary,
Haven't said anything for a long time. but, like you, we all had a great deal of faith in osdate but when Vijay took it over as "his" there was no longer any co-operation and he wasn't interested in listening to suggestions even when code was written and given to him. On that note we all started drifting from it when so called release dates were pushed out by nearly a year. I still think the script itself is a good base for programmers to work with but so much time and so little done equates to loss of interest. I still mess with it sometimes but like you it is certainly not a priority. There was a time when  some of us would have given an arm and a leg,,,,, ok  maybe just one or the other to see it as a good, worthwhile and usable script but that has all gone. Anyways, am glad to see the forum is staying open, I would have taken the site from you and hosted it on my servers etc.  Merry Christmas everyone   oops  thats beenand gone, ok then Happy New Year  :) :) :)
