steps to make osdate a traditional indian matrimonial site
« on: February 19, 2017, 05:29:54 PM »
After trying many free scripts osdate seems to be the closest one I can get to a traditional indian matrimonial site. However this script misses few key features of traditional Indian sites. Now I understand this is a dating script and the purpose is not the same. However with the help of fantastic support forum I would like to see how many we can resolve / already resolved.

1) Gender choices other than man & woman (at registration and during search).

This is the biggest issue as I can see. All we need is one field to enter gender at the registration page and there should be no more selections related to this. When a registered user logs in there should be no other gender selection / seeking option. All search and listing functions (ex: list of new users etc...) should use opposite sex of the registered user.

Now I saw few posts to remove additional options from gender list but I couldn't find a way to automatically use opposite sex as the gender in search.

2) Assign membership ID when registering a user

Again I saw one post where a modification allows an admin to see the unique id of users. However it is not quite the same. The requirement is to assign each user a unique ascending ID (ex: abc0000001) and display it when viewing their profile. This is specially useful when we allow unregistered users to browse the site. If someone is interested they can send an email to the match making agency referring the user id and we can arrange communication between two parties.

Thanks in advance.

Hi rajgopal,

I just looked at a matrimonial site and the difference is that you have self, Son, Daughter, Brother, Son, Sister, Friend and Relative, these all and be added in place of Male and Female.

Here is the link to make the changes, https://www.osdateforum.com/general-osdate-help/drop-down-menu-additions/msg3375/#msg3375

In the link above shows how to remove the gender, adding them is just done the same way in reverse.

The Religion and Community can all be added in the admin area.

If your not sure how to do this, then I would suggest you hire a coder. :)
