Some ideas for new mods
« on: March 10, 2013, 02:17:01 PM »
Hello.

I have some ideas for some mods. All of them i have seen once on a german osdate site.

-a market place
-a group content like in facebook (user can create, join, leave, delete discussion groups)
-users can use html and css at their profiles to do their own profile look
-an extra login/register for music bands to publish their concert dates, their songs ....
-a mp3-player at the profile where the users can add 1 mp3 from a list (maybe from a list which bands created before)
-an app for android

for the group content, i found a lot facebook clone script working with php/smarty, but it's impossible for me to cut out only the important files and do the changes for osdate  :-\ And this part is for me the most important mod at the moment i want to do/insert to my site.

So maybe somebody wants do to something like this. Of course i would help where i can...

regards, wp180

Osdate 2.6
PHP 5.4.21
MsSQL 5.1.72

Hi,

Not to sound blunt or something but why not use a facebook clone instead of Osdate? It sounds to me your needs are more like a social network than of a dating script. There are a lot of free scripts that do exactly what you need.

Will be testing for Osdater.

I know Dolphin. But after 2 years of working with osdate it's now ready, the flyers are on the way to my friends and the site starts these days.

So, i don't want to use another script then osdate. But i want to do more features .....
And i think it's legitimate to post ideas for osdate.

Hi,

I agree with wp180 after using osDate for a number of years, it is very hard to move to another script and start from fresh and try and move everything from osDate.
I have tried it, before thinking the sun is brighter on the other side, to find it is not.

It is great to see ideas coming that member would like to see in osDate, as that is the only way osDate will grow.

There are going to be some of use working on a newer version of osDate called osDater.
osDater will be a stable cut down of osDate at first, with stable and speed kept in mind at all time, which osDate has let slip, I have found.

So keep an eye out for the osDater forum area popping up in the forum, over the next month.
With information and a place for suggestions.

Thats my biggest worry i have with osdate. My site will start now, and then there is new version and if you want change the older script , you have to change all again because all changes are away. (Since i started with osdate 2 years ago there was a message that osdatepdo comes out at april (2011), so waiting and waiting and not worked with osdate 2.6... nothing happed... so started with changes with 2.6).

Now i'm ready, hope nothing new will come out  :-\ .....

Looking at the feedback from the web, everyone seems to go for osDate anyway.

Hi,

Of course new mods and ideas are very welcome for Osdate(r). I only suggested to look at an social network script. I have seen a couple of them that are free and opensource. I know 2 years work is a lot to throw away but sometimes your better of with something fresh and that suits your needs more than what you have now.

Personaly I am sticking to Osdate because i think it can be a great script with some changes in certain areas and less bugs and it is complicated enough to learn how this script works and as long as I am still learning from this script  it just wouldn't be wise to switch to another  :) and get me more confused than it sometimes is.
