Modified getsnap.php
« on: May 01, 2013, 12:34:48 PM »
Hi,

Has somebody modified the way pictures are stored and retrieved so it won't slow down your site so much as it does now?

Added some features to the template but this has quite some impact on how fast it loads due to multiple profile pictures.
Kind regards,

Will be testing for Osdater.

Hi

I know Garry wanted to change the way profilepictures being stored in the DB aswell.
There has change much because in my version (2.19a) the main pictures (not the thumbnails)
are stored directly in the DB, so not resized.
They are being resized when showprofile is called.
The way of storing the pictures is improved in later versions so you have already a faster version, but
Garry wanted to store all the pictures on a external server i remeber but it never developed...

Hi,

Yes. That was the plan.

I was hoping that somebody allready developed a mod or is interested in making one. When I had only 2 or 3 pics and shoutbox with profile picture loading times aren't too bad. But adding something like new members or display buddies with pictures in the homepage you really going to see the difference. I tried storing in DB and don't store in DB but I don't see much difference.

hi

I have no such delay as you discrived and i can't realy think some thumbnails
off 5 or 6 kb. can make such a difference in loadingtime... since you allready tryed
pictures don't store in DB maybe there is something else increasing the loadingtime

Hi there,

Why don't you use the YSlow plugin or the Page Speed plugin in Firefox, they both show whats slowing down the loading.

On mine, loading is mostly JavaScript that is slowing the website down.
Thought I would put that out there  :)
