Mail Settings
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:18:13 PM »
We are now having problems with the mail settings in global settings. Our site is not sending the confirmation email to new members to okay their profile.

In the setup in this forum:-

  6. SMTP User - This is the same username that was used when you created your database, and you needed to add a username and password.

  7. SMTP Password - This is the same password that was used when you created your database, and you needed to add a username and password.

  8. Path to Sendmail - By deafult leave it as it is, if you are running your own server then this may need to be changed.

6. Is this referring to the osDate db? Or the SMTP server with my hosting company?

7. Is this referring to the osDate db? Or the SMTP server with my hosting company?

8. Is the defult path /usr/sbin/sendmail.

You need to set mail options (just above these lines). Choose "mail' if your server uses Postfix or choose "Sendmail", if it uses Sendmail. If you use commercial server just ask your host what they use.

Yes, we have tried all three, but nothing works.

We need to confirm the information below:-

In the setup in this forum:-

  6. SMTP User - This is the same username that was used when you created your database, and you needed to add a username and password.

  7. SMTP Password - This is the same password that was used when you created your database, and you needed to add a username and password.

  8. Path to Sendmail - By deafult leave it as it is, if you are running your own server then this may need to be changed.

7. Is this referring to the osDate db? Or the SMTP server with my hosting company?

8. Is the defult path /usr/sbin/sendmail.

Our hosing company says the mail settings are correct.

So is there something in settings what we are missing?

Hi TheXSgroup,

I use the defult path /usr/sbin/sendmail system which is setup when you install osdate fresh.
Or make sure the settings are as below:
Quote
Mail format     (html or text)   html
Mail type (mail or smtp or sendmail)   mail
SMTP Mail server   smtp.domain.com
Port in SMTP Mail Server   25
SMTP Mail server require authorization or not   1
SMTP Mail server username   admin@domain.com
SMTP Mail server password   ***********
Sendmail program location   /usr/sbin/sendmail

On my host this works, if I change the Mail Type to smtp it fails to send.

Give it a try and see how it goes.

Is the pw on 'SMTP Mail server password' only set for 9 characters?

As our osDate seems to truncate our 15 character pw to 9.

Mail is still not working  :(

Think its time to give osdate a big NO. Sure the paid dating scripts will have the mail settings working correctly, shame as we have paid a lot for our dating site i.e. templates and addons ect.

That is not osDate problem. Mail works in osDate. It is a server or configuration problem. As I said before: You need to set mail options. Choose "Mail' if your server uses Postfix or choose "Sendmail", if it uses Sendmail. If you use commercial server just ask your host what they use and how to configure mail. Also check this settings in Admin control panel: "Bypass registration confirmation by the user?" It should be set to N.

Hi TheXSgroup,

The password doesn't have to be 9 characters, it can be what you make it.
I personally would just leave the mail settings after setting up a fresh osdate install as
the email gets configured in the process.

SMTP is hardly used, there must be a error in your install or the host
I just went to my testing site and the smtp is not installed at all and the emails still send.

Is the pw on 'SMTP Mail server password' only set for 9 characters?

As our osDate seems to truncate our 15 character pw to 9.

Hi All,

Tonight we setup a new test site and the mail works  ;D

Tomorrow we will have to set the site up again  :-\ , this time at every step, as we change the site, we will double check to make sure the email is working.

Is there anyway to reorder the email address drop down so noreply@ is at the top?

Hi theXSgroup,

if you mean the auto emails that get sent when someone joins or gets a message, you should be able to to change admin@domain.com to noreply@domain.com in the email settings.

If you mean the Send Letter in the Admin area, you can add to the drop down list, click the [...] button on the right of the first email and a popup will show all the emails you have added and a submit area, in the submit are type the noreply@domain.com click submit and that's it, close the popup and refresh the page check it's in your drop down list and your good to go.

Well the site mail is working (at last)  ;D

We had to start with a fresh install. So if anybody has the same problem, reinstall and keep the mail server information you entered in when installing osD.

Pharg,

Sorry, we did mean the email address in the dropdrop by [...]. We want the address which we will use (noreply@) at the top of the list so when new members join the confirmation email states noreply@ourdomain.com and this address to be our default email.

If I remember it right I added the e-mail adress in Cpanel and changed the defaults in the global settings of the Admin

Will be testing for Osdater.
