.htaccess rewrite rules for articles
« on: October 22, 2013, 09:01:40 PM »
My .htaccess file contains:  RewriteRule ^articles.html$ index.php?page=articles
                                         RewriteRule ^article([^/]+).htm$ index.php?page=showarticle&articleid=$1

When the admin panel SEO setting for mod_rewrite is set to NO, individual article URL's show as:

domain.com/index.php?page=showarticle&articleid=33 (for the 33rd article).  However, when I turn on mod_rewrite in the admin panel I get the domain.com/articles.html page just fine and all of the other pages on the site map over fine but each article page just gives me a blank page.  I've looked at the code and everything looks good to me.  What else could be causing this?  Also, I clear all cached files but still have the same result.

Thanks,
Jas

Hi fiatlux,

The rewrite for articles seems correct but here is the code again.

Code: [Select]
RewriteRule ^articles.html$ index.php?page=articles
RewriteRule ^article([^/]+).htm$ index.php?page=showarticle&articleid=$1

There is no Title text for these pages, something the original Dev team was going to do.
I just did a sitemap on my test default site and it finds all of the articles and all five have the same title being Article.

Having the mod_rewrite set to On always works best.
Make sure that the allarticles.tpl is all there and it should start with a {strip}  and finish with a closing {/strip}  compare it to the upload copy.

Try the sitemap maker out and you will see fast results at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com

What version osDate are you using would also be helpful?

My .htaccess file contains:  RewriteRule ^articles.html$ index.php?page=articles

The SEO in OSDATE is really Poor you can expend thousand of hours in you web but is difficult to get Users  with that SEO
Osdate SEO will simply will need to add dynamic keyword and description tags based on post or page content to every post and page on every blog

Hi gineta,

Firstly, we didn't write this osdate script, the original people abandoned it for new things. We are here for support to it as most of the members here know it from the original forum, if you have a problem please ask for help but don't shoot the messenger :)

I have had my osdate live for about 6 years and don't get any problems with Google etc about the articles,
Make sure you use a good sitemap creator to get good results, play with the titles code and .htaccess code to see if you can improve it.

Try making improvements to the Seo and let others know how it's done.
